Mortgage help from Union Plus.
If you are a union member, The Mortgage Assistance Fund was created for you and is exclusively for union members, their parents, families, and children of unions that participate in the Union Plus Mortgage Program. To date the assistance program has provided almost $5 million in interest-free loans to union members and working families whose income has been reduced due to unemployment, strike, lockout, or disability.
If you need mortgage or foreclosure help, and are involuntarily unemployed, disabled or even if you are involved in a short-term strike or lockout that will last less than 30 days, you can apply for mortgage assistance in the form of an interest-free loan from the Union Plus Mortgage Assistance Program.
- Some of the aid provided is a grant and does not need to be repaid. In total, up to $1,000 of the first payment is a grant and does not have to be repaid by you.
- Loans that are provided are based on individual need and will cover up to six months of mortgage payments. Note however that you must re-certify after 3 months for the full 6 month program.
- Repayment of the loan will begin 4 months after your last assistance program payment.
- If you end up or decide to refinance or sell your home, you must repay the outstanding loan in full at the time of the sale of your house only when the proceeds from the sale of your home exceed the value of the outstanding mortgage.
