Mortgage and foreclosure help from a counselor.
You can receive mortgage and foreclosure assistance from a mortgage counselor. They can help a homeowner in many different ways. For example, some of the assistance that they can provide includes, but is not limited to, help homeowners find any way possible to become current on any outstanding mortgage payments, debts, or bills, they can help with the loan modification process, they can help with the homeowners general finances, and if needed explain how the foreclosure process or bankruptcy process works if needed. In addition, mortgage counselors are also a great resource to use to negotiate and to get help from your creditors and lenders. A mortgage counselor will do whatever they can to come up with a solution for the homeowner that is in trouble with their payments.
Mortgage counselors have numerous shoes to fill and roles to serve as. Some of what they need to do, and skills they need to posses include strong negotiations, good listening skills, they need to be advocates for the homeowner, and last, but not least, they need a strong ability to analyze financial situations and people budgets.
Many of the everyday issues that mortgage counselors deal with have been caused by questionable mortgage loans and lending practices by banks and other financial institutions. These questionable loans by Countrywide and others caused financially inexperienced homeowners to get in way over their heads because they may not have understood the terms of their mortgage or maybe they were even lied to. There are many stories and examples of homeowners that were talked into and sometimes pressured into signing by unscrupulous mortgage brokers and lenders that wanted to make as much money for themselves from a commission.
Today, mortgage counselors have very stressful and difficult jobs that demand patience, negotiation skills, professionalism and tact under a wide variety of circumstances. Always be sure that you spend time and conduct plenty of research to be sure that you select a mortgage counselor who is qualified and can provide you the most help with your mortgage or foreclosure.
