Citigroup mortgage and foreclosure help.

Citigroup has created the Citi Homeowner Assistance program. The goal of this mortgage assistance program is to provide mortgage and foreclosure help to over 500,000 homeowners that have a mortgage that Citigroup either manages or owns. The program will also be focusing on homeowners who are current on their mortgage, however Citigroup knows that some of these homeowners may require additional assistance in order to remain current on their outstanding mortgage debt and monthly payments. In particular, Citigroup is focusing its mortgage assistance on those customers and borrowers who are in areas of the country that are likely to face extreme economic distress or those who are experiencing a financial emergency.

Some of the actions being taking include extending the foreclosure moratorium practice. Citigroup will start foreclose a home, or even begin the foreclosure process on any eligible homeowner in which Citigroup owns the mortgage. There are some conditions including the borrower must be trying to stay in the home which needs to be their primary residence. The homeowners also needs to be fully cooperating and working in good faith with Citigroup. Also, the homeowner needs to have sufficient income, or future income, to make the adjusted, affordable monthly mortgage payments.

Citigroup has been providing mortgage help since 2007. Since then, Citigroup has helped over 400,000 families avoid or stop a foreclosure on their primary homes. Some of the actions taking by Citigroup include creating the Office of Homeownership Preservation (OHP). Citi’s OHP has worked closely with both homeowners and mortgage counselors to help them find alternatives to the mortgage foreclosure process whenever possible. Through the OHP mortgage assistance program, Citi has offered delinquent borrowers numerous free services such as round-the-clock access to qualified mortgage counselors. In addition, the OHP program has also offered all borrowers a robust suite of financial counseling, educational services, and other aid that has helped many with budgeting and paying bills.
